Crazy Words

Mellifluous. Huh?  Have you ever heard that word?  This word and the words below are a few that I found. They are all pretty awesome and definitely should be used more often.

Mellifluous: a sound that is sweet and smooth, pleasing to hear

Somnambulist: a person that sleepwalks

Sonorous: an imposing deep and full sound

Petrichor: the pleasant, earthly smell after rain

Iridescent: producing a display of rainbow-like colours

Phosphenes: the light and colours produced by rubbing your eyes

Incandescence: a light produced by high temperatures

Denouement: the resolution of a narrative

Epoch: a particular period of time in history or in a person’s life

Bombinate: to make a humming or a buzzing noise

Vellichor: the strange wistfulness of used bookshops

Supine: lying face upwards

Oblivion: the state of being unaware of what is happening around you

Ethereal: extremely delicate light, not of this world

Epiphany: a moment of sudden revelation
