31 days of Dad Days

Day 20 – A Post from Dad

Guest Blogger… DAD!!!!!!

Almost two years ago, we decided to home school our children (The Harmonic Minors).  My amazing wife, Angie, took on the job of school teacher.  For 5 days a week,  40 weeks a year she now has 4 kids of various ages to educate, along with her many other commitments.  She has a VERY busy life.  🙂

I do shift work and am rostered off every second Thursday.  So, as a way of trying to free up a little bit of time for Angie to get some other things done, “Dad Day” was born.

Maths, Science and English certainly aren’t my strong points, so we had to think about what I could teach them that wasn’t on the traditional curriculum.  We looked at what I was good at to see what ideas we could come up with that the kids would enjoy.  I can build things.  I can fix things.  I enjoy all kinds of sports.  I am reasonably creative.  I like to travel…..

“Dad day” has turned into all of these things, and I think I get just as excited about it as the kids do!  It is sometimes hard to come up with ideas, but most of the time we have heaps of fun, and learn something new along the way.

Dad.

You certainly are one terrific Dad, Pete. I am enjoying reading about your Dad Days soooo much – wish we could join in. Even if they don’t work out as planned, you always manage to turn them into something great – what a good lesson there is in that!!

    Love Sal
