Day 4 – Helensburgh Train Tunnels
In October last year one of our Dad Days was to go to the Helensburgh Train Tunnels. Our neighbours had recommended them. Apparently there are glow worms all over the inside tunnel walls.
We took our gumboots, but we forgot a torch, so we used Dad’s phone light. We used it as little as possible so that the battery would last. We climbed over the rails and went into the tunnel. It was full of mud and we got really muddy.
Dad didn’t have any trouble walking so he kept going on while we were all plodding along slowly. We got about thirty metres in when Delle got stuck in the mud and we had to try to pull her out. We couldn’t really get any farther with the little light that we had and all the water that was in the tunnels.
We knew it was going to be wet, but not quite as wet as it was. 🙂 So thirty metres in, we turned around and came back out. Covered in mud. And we didn’t see any glow worms. It was very funny. 🙂
