Family night

Every second week we have ‘Family Night’.  Family night is a special night where the ‘rules’ are firstly that everyone has to be at home, we take turns choosing and making a special dinner, desert, activity to do after dinner, and setting the table in a fancy décor.  We have done this for about 3 or 4 years and it has become a family tradition.

This time for family night Elijah was on dinner and he made sushi.  He prepared all the ingredients for us to assemble our own at the table.  Some of the sushi rolling was quite funny (especially Dad’s. 🙂 ) It was delicious!

I was on for dessert and I made a carrot cake in our Thermomix, with a coconut cream icing.  The cake was from this website: Carrot Cake and the icing was the icing from this recipe: Carrot Cake Icing (we all really like the Quirky Cooking recipes. 🙂 ). Well I burnt the cake!  If you make it, put the oven on a little bit lower and don’t cook it for as long as in the recipe:).  I covered it in icing and carrot swirls and it tasted quite good, just a bit crunchy on the outside, great on the inside and delicious with custard. 🙂 Yum

Danielle set the table with bouquets of purple flowers, placecards and special straws.

Abbi was on for activity and she was planning on tracing a silhouette of each of us onto large pieces of paper and decorating it with art.  Unfortunately, it was very late at night and so has been postponed until we have time.  Normally we can easily fit everything in, but it’s been quite busy lately.  When we do it I will post some pictures in this space. 🙂

It is definitely a highlight of our week.  It’s heaps of fun for everyone in the family.  🙂
